Shaw Smitherman has been building homes in Western North Carolina for over 10 years. Originally from Alabama (hence the name of his company), he has lived in Western North Carolina since he was a teenager.
A few years ago, he was approached by a friend to finish a log house that he had “stacked” for a customer. In finishing this home, Shaw realized the extreme satisfaction that comes from building a log home. At that time, he decided to re-direct his talents and formed his Log and Timber-Frame building company.
Shaw is not your typical “paper-contractor”, he is on-site over-seeing his crews and subcontractors. Oftentimes, you’ll find him making the difficult log cuts and climbing the highest heights to get the job done at the standards that he demands for his customers. His philosophy is “I build your house the way that I would want my house to be built”. This means, Shaw constantly researches the best building methods and implements them in his building practices.
In the section called the
“building process”, you can view the steps of building a home for a customer. In one picture, you can see the larger concrete blocks that Shaw uses to make sure that the house foundation is solid enough to hold the weight of the log structure for many years to come.
Shaw loves to talk about building so feel free to contact him with any questions you may have about building your log dream.
